Salam and good day everyone!

Well, how do I start this? *speechless*

I’ve been contemplating a lot about to start up this blog and now it's finally happening just like a dream comes true :) Alhamdulillah. It's my biggest hope that this medium will be a huge help for English learners to improve and be consistent in their learning journey.

It's my true concern to notice that Malaysian students have a massive problem in expressing themselves in English. Reflecting back to my old days in primary and secondary school, I think I was nothing different from this cliche stereotype as I also lacked of confidence and hardly felt encouraged to practice this language. But why this poor circumstance is still happening now in this era, especially to the generation Z?

The first major factor that I discovered is probably the narrow-minded that certain groups possess. Let's just admit how a negative surrounding isn't much of help to provide a better encouragement for people to practice English. I found it gruelling that some people tend to intimidate or belittle those who try to speak and practice English. It seems that these people have never felt apologetic to this kind of shameful behaviour. It has caused detrimental effect as it destroys someone's self-esteem and also degrades someone's interest towards this language. This should stop on the instant.

Dear students, it's not about showing off how good you are at this language, rather it's all about encouraging one another to be better at it. I'm pretty sure that it could be a well off surrounding when our mindsets are ready for a significant change towards positivity and acceptance. Let's change the environment to a better place for everyone to learn and improve.  Do indulge in this positive surrounding and find supportive friends who would help you to grow and most importantly don't let the naysayers stop you becoming the best version of you. Improvement starts from continuous practice as a saying 'Practice makes perfect'. So, keep it up!

Mastering English language isn't as easy as ABC. I got to confess that even now as an English teacher I had a little problems in a certain area. In fact, natives do some mistakes sometime. It is a long process that will take you years to actually be really good at it. For Malaysian students, it's their biggest fear to face the challenges to learn the language. You can probably tell how many students hate learning grammar and  finding writing an essay is tiresome due to lacking of skills and knowledge.

Occasionally, students keep doing the same mistakes over and over even though the teacher has corrected them for multiple times which can be repetitive and boring! haha. But this is what the learning process is all about. It's either you take things for granted or actually take the lesson into your heart. It's eventually getting a lot easier if you realised, mistakes are actually the key for mastery the language. You learned from them a lot and they helped you improve from time to time. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. So, keep practicing English and never give up!

Believe it or not, your attitude towards English can indirectly boost your language proficiency. It's so amazing that many students managed to do well in this subject due to their certain hobbies or preferences. Some may find listening to English songs is the best way they could learn the language. This is possible when learners find some meaningful lyrics from songs that they can literally understand and relate to their emotion and situation. While others may find it favourable to watch English movies or series on TV. Whatever it is, do find your suitable method that can be a great stimulant to develop a better engagement towards this language. It's try and error experiment!

I remember how I used to be so fanatic to some English songs when I was in secondary school. Among the first few songs that I was introduced were 'Unfaithful' by  Rihanna, 'Hot and cold' by Katty Perry and other great singers like Taylor Swift and the boybands like Backstreet boys and Westlife. I also remember how I was such a big fan of Hannah Montana series which I laughed a lot at their silly jokes and how the characters behaved to each other. These platforms were very impactful in my learning process and how it gave me a different perspective to escape my small box and explore a wider world. So, learning is not only limited in classroom or reading books. You have to find out as many mediums as possible to let change happen in your learning experience.

Me talking to Mr. Krusty from the Simpsons hehe :)

Overall, when there's a will, there's always a way. Given some advice above,  you can start thinking and reflecting on ways you can do to improve your English language. People often argued that being good in language doesn't necessarily prove your intelligence. Well, for me it can be true to some extent. But little did we realise how language actually brings a colossal impact to our world. Language is the most effective method in delivering brilliant ideas we have in our mind. How could we channel our fantastic and intelligent thoughts to the world if we couldn't even speak a language properly? How could we gain people's trust if we cannot convince them by our words? There's no doubt that it's language that plays the role :) All the best people! xxx

Till next time :)

  1. While reading this,I remember back in primary school,I hate english so much. So,I always get an average of 60-70 marks for 3 years straight. After all the hardships, a teacher came to me and he told me "Farish, join tuisyen saya Isnin ni".I felt so scared because he was a scary dicipline teacher. But after a month of tuition(2 days each week),I striked back and got 85 above. He showed me the wonders of English and then I started to learn english by playing video games, english songs and watch english movies. In a year,I became one of the top students in English.Until now,we are still in contact and help each other a lot. So,I hope that you would also be a great teacher or even better than the teacher that I mentioned earlier.I very believe English could be mastered but it take time.Iam very sorry because this comment took a while for you to read.Tq for teaching us & I support you sir.
