Career Fair : A Step Towards Your Goal

A career fair was successfully organised at my school, Sekolah Menengah Cempaka, on Saturday, 3rd February 2025 in order to encourage students to find pathways after they finished school. This recent event was purposely conducted on the weekend, so parents and students from nearby schools can also participate and get more useful information related to different kind of professional jobs in the current market. The program took place at our grand auditorium, Dewan Sri Mawar, that managed to accommodate about 350 number of participants comfortably ranging from seniors, juniors, teachers and parents. The career fair was fully sponsored by Cempaka Alumni and there were more than 65 booths opened from different universities, agencies and professional bodies. The event was launched by our principal, Mr Alex Smith followed by keynote sessions by our respected guests and speakers. This report will explain in detail about the career fair held.

It is a concerning issue when there is a current trend nowadays that youngsters have no direction for their future path after they finished school. It is indeed very worrying because many opt for not pursuing their study at tertiary education because they have no idea of what kind of ambition that suits them with their personal interest. Hence, Sekolah Menengah Cempaka put some effort in tackling the problem among students by holding the career fair event, so students can be more prepared for their bright future. One of the new knowledge learned by participants was the vast opportunities of occupation available in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field. The booths and keynote sessions held were eye-opening for students to discover in-depth about many different careers that they can aim to be in the future. For instance, students are exposed with the fundamental job prospects as an engineer and the different kind of engineering fields that they can pursue such as mechanical, electrical and civil. Hence, the career fair made students be more open-minded by learning something new.

Besides, another interesting part of the programme is that students were introduced with many opportunities that they never knew existed such as internship programs, summer camp and leadership conference. These programmes would encourage students to develop their personal interest and polish their skills to be more competent in different areas of study. Students can explore more hands-on work related duties which will highly benefit them abundantly for the experience they would gain. For example, Kuala Lumpur Robotics Association offers internship programs for secondary school students who are interested in robotics and engineering field as they can learn the essential knowledge and basic skills for beginners. This can assist students to discover more and be more passionate to achieve their dream job in the future. Therefore, students learned that they can be more involved in their passions early to prepare themselves for their dream ambition.

In addition, the career fair had received ample of positive feedback from visitors and participants as they gained numerous benefits. Sekolah Menengah Cempaka should be proud and continue to organise more event like this in the future so that the young teenagers can gain more insightful knowledge and valuable experience in their lives. This program is hoped to bring transformation in students' perspective and ideas about the career that they want to pursue in the future. Not only that, such event can be carried out annually so that students can be more motivated and inspired to chase their dream and ambition. The exposure given by many professionals during the career fair will indeed be very useful for students to have a clear direction that they can lead after finishing secondary education. Thus, more event like this career fair is necessary to be held in the future to encourage students to be more knowledgeable.

Overall, the event was an outstanding success, providing students with invaluable insights and opportunities for personal and academic growth. The knowledge gained from the career fair serves as a stepping stone for students to set clear life goals and work diligently toward achieving their dreams. Parents and teachers play a crucial role in guiding and inspiring students to make informed decisions about their future. As the backbone of the nation's progress, the younger generation holds the key to shaping a more prosperous, developed, and respected society in the years to come.

Writing: Directed Essay 1

Saturday, 1 March 2025

In your class, you have been discussing fun activities to do during your free time. Your teacher has asked you to write an essay about the activity you do.

In your essay, you should write about:

  • the activity chosen
  • reasons you enjoy doing it
  • how to encourage others to do the same activity
Use all the notes and give reasons for your point of view.
Write your answer in 120-150 words in an appropriate style.

In today's globalised world, everyone is occupied with their busy schedule from dawn till late night and they have very little time doing fun activities to unwind. Many find it stressful and exhausted as they have to keep up with the fast-paced changes that take place in this modern society. Although we are all chasing our dreams and goals, we must remember that our bodies need some time to rest and relax, so that we can function optimally in our daily lives. Therefore, this essay will elaborate further about an activity that I enjoy doing during my leisure.

First and foremost, the activity that I choose to indulge during my free time is watching YouTube. This platform is very popular as it has a variety types of video ranging from different topic of interests. Most importantly, YouTube is free for all users and this allows everyone to have access easily via their smartphone or television. For example, I love watching many videos related to travelling, cooking recipes, car reviews and home designs. These videos provide me inspiration, knowledge and ideas to be more productive, creative and motivated at the same time. I can also subscribe many high quality videos from local or international channels to get updates of their new uploaded videos. Thus, watching YouTube is a fun and beneficial activity to me.

There are several major reasons that I enjoy watching Youtube during my past time. One of it is because watching YouTube is very entertaining for me. There are various video options that I can choose from which is never boring and this helps me to improve my knowledge in many areas and topics, so that I can be more mindful and open-minded. Other than that, another reason I enjoy this activity is because it can release my stress from my hectic routine especially after long hours of completing my homework and doing revision. Often I find myself feeling overwhelmed with all of the hassles which can lead to a stressful day. In order to overcome this, I spend at least one hour watching my favourite YouTube channel and learn something new in there. Hence, these are the positive reasons of me watching YouTube during my free time.

Lastly, I can encourage others especially my peers to watch YouTube by promoting them the videos that I recently watched. I love to share the knowledge I gained from the platform and I can also suggest them some good channels that they can watch too. This may help them to discover their personal interests in any possible fields as almost everything is available in YouTube. For instance, if my friends are interested in travelling the world, I can recommend them to watch a channel called "Rare TV" as there are plenty of travel vlogs of our local Malaysians exploring wonderful places abroad. This will help them building new perspectives and open their mind and heart to learn from others based on real life experiences. Therefore, promoting YouTube channels to others will make them realise how interesting the activity is.

In a nutshell, there are abundance of fun activities that we can try so that we can fill our free time beneficially. We can give a try to a new activity because who knows that we will eventually fall in love in such activity and discover that we are actually good at it. The possibilities are endless and it is up to every individual to explore what kind of activities that suit them. For me personally, watching YouTube is really fun and has become my hobby but I also keen to try something new in the future such as hiking and F1 racing. Who know these would be my next favourite things to do during my leisure.

Hi,

Guess what! I am going food hunting in Malaysia this summer break. Can you recommend the best food for me to try? Where can I get it? What makes it so special?

I can't wait to see you.

Zulu

Dear Zulu,

What a good news from you! I'm very excited and I can't wait to see you this summer. Coming to Malaysia is the right decision and I'm sure you will get a whale of a time in here this holiday. My country has a lot to offer, so here are my personal suggestions to your questions.

First of all, I highly recommend you to try this traditional cuisine from my hometown which is Mee Bandung. It's a bowl of noodles served with savoury beef stew and some additional ingredients such as boiled egg, vegetables and fishcakes that complement the taste so well. I'm very confident that you'll like it so much as the taste is totally out of the world! Next, you can actually spot many restaurants or food stalls that sell this food all around Johor especially in Muar district but I suggest you to go to Mak Bedah Mee Bandung Power nearby my neighbourhood. It's a famous eatery that serves the most authentic Mee Bandung and other Johorean local foods such as Laksa Johor and Mee Rebus. Lastly, Mee Bandung is so special because it's a comforting food whereby its traditional recipe is passed down from one generation to another since hundred years ago. This has made it possible for the locals and tourists to enjoy the food till today.

That's all from me. I hope you'll consider my recommendation soon as you reached here in Malaysia. Safe travels and see you! Bye.

Regards,

Khair

 SEM 2 FORM 4 2024

Your teacher has asked you to write a story for the school magazine. Your story must begin with the following words.

There was nothing left in Rina's wardrobe except her old torn dress....

Your story must include:

  • what had happened to her and the struggles she faced
  • how this changed Rina

There was nothing left in Rina's wardrobe except her old torn dress that her grandmother gifted her three years ago. The blue dress with gold embroideries was faded in colour and to be honest it did not fit her body like how it used to be. High school prom would take place in a few weeks time and she literally had no proper attire to wear to celebrate her senior year's special night. She was not sure what she could do because asking her parents to buy her a new one was not a good idea for now. She wept silently on her bedroom's floor as she felt blank and helpless.

It was a challenging time for Rina's family as her father, Mr Amran was allegedly accused for money embezzlement and scandals from the company he worked for. Her father was detained and all of the family's property and money were seized and got frozen by the authority for further investigation and prosecution. It brought shame to Rina's family as all neighbours and relatives started to distance themselves away. While at school, friends and teachers looked down on Rina and gossips were spread like fire. Some kids even labelled her as a lunatic fraud and Rina was bullied just simply because of her father's mistake. It was unfair for her but she was lucky enough to have her best friends, Rose and Lily stuck by and still believed in her. They knew that Rina's father was framed for a crime he did not commit.

" You will come to senior prom right, Rina? " Rose asked.
" I better not. Everyone hates me." She replied
" We don't! Please come. It'll be the best night for us. Three of us. " Lily added
" Yes I know, I'll think about it ok. " Rina responded hesitantly.

Another thing that actually made Rina felt guilty for not going to prom was because of her boyfriend, Zachary who already asked her to go together and she gave him a promising yes as an answer. Deep down Rina knew Zachary was hoping she could make it before they both departed for different college next year. But now she was desperate for a new dress and with the current financial issue her family faced, she knew it was almost impossible to get one from a designer. It would cost too much and she only had roughly around 450 dollars in her saving. Maybe she could go to local stores at East Anglia town nearby and find the dress she could afford. There must be one that was meant for her.

The next day after school, Rina wandered around town alone and her eyes were wild scanning from one window to another if she could spot a dress that would suit her with the limited budget she had. Unfortunately, everything seemed dull to her as she was a little ashamed and overwhelmed by the problems that happened to her family. She should not go for shopping at this critical moment because the money she had could be useful for something far more beneficial. Until a moment she saw an exquisite coral green dress worn by a mannequin at a small local boutique called Laura Collections. Her heart melted and her gaze was fixed to that dress for a couple of minutes at least. The dress was designed perfectly with some beautiful layers of linen, floral patterns of hand-embroidery and what made it more attractive was the sparkles of rhinestones all over the dress which made it more exclusive and elegant. She had already imagined herself in that dress and she could have easily outshine other girls during the prom. She dared to take steps and entered the shop to check on the dress in a hope it would not cost more that what she could afford. Her jaw dropped just to see the price tag as it stated the amount that was way out of her expectation - $1200 for that single dress - it was insane! She went out of the boutique with a disappointment but as she was about to leave the street, a flyer was given by a random guy. It stated " Part-timer Wanted". She instantly said to herself ' This is my destiny'.

It had been two weeks since Rina started working part-time at A&Y fast-food restaurant. She went to work right after school till late night just to earn some money for the sake of purchasing that stunning dress she saw last time. She had to give excuses whenever her best friends asked her out to hangout and what made her more guilty was that she lied to her mother as she said that she had study group session at Lily's because she returned home late almost everyday. Deep down, Rina knew it was a wrong act but she could not bear to burden her parents for something she wanted. She thought it would be a good idea to work independently from now on and be less dependent. She wiped her sweat as she finished washing a pile of dishes at the restaurant. It definitely taught her to be patient and hardworking.

As the prom night arrived, Rina could not believe her eyes that she was standing in front of a mirror in her dream dress. She smiled at herself and had never been this proud. She knew that her hard work was finally paid off and she was grateful for what she achieved. She combed her wavy brown hair and put some light make-up on her face which already did a justice to her appearance. After a moment later, Rina's mother, Mrs Amran shouted her name " Rina! Come down here! Faster!". Rina was shocked and she immediately climbed down the stairs to the living room, feeling anxious that there might be an emergency. Her mother pointed at the television where the news showed a headline "The real culprit is arrested. Amran is found not guilty." The silence of the room was broken as both of them cried in happiness and they thanked God for the wonderful news as the truth had finally been revealed. They hugged each other for a bit longer as they knew the tough time for them as a family was finally over. Out of sudden, the house door was knocked several times and Rina quickly reached and opened it. There was Zachary, the boy she loved, waiting for her to the prom. Rina smiled and grabbed his arm and they walked together. She knew Rose and Lily were also waiting for her. It was a beautiful night for her indeed.
